Nortje Philosophy

 

Nortje by Geraldine focuses on creating a fashion label that is kind to our planet and a positive contribution to the fashion industry moving forward. She believes it is not enough to create great fashion without having a sustainable process impact. Her priority is to make quality garments from a single fabrication linen made to last you through the seasons and years. Reducing textile waste and prolonging the life span of the garments. 

 

Slow fashion

Carefully created pieces that are timeless and easy to wear. Made to build a collection that can be worn for many years. We custom create our own textiles with varying hand made prints. Our manufacturers share our ethical values and practices.

Design

Our design work is carried out between Australia and Bali. Manufactured by a growing small production family business working closely with our brand. 

Our philosophy around design is to keep things simple, comfortable and let the prints and colour combinations do the talking. Through this we have established our signature prints which we repeat through the seasons creating our signature style. While adding new looks and pieces. 

We aim to have 4 collections through the year not necessarily in line with the industry. We design with a clear vision of what women want and how we like to feel when wearing Nortje by Geraldine.

Textile Design

Our design process always begins with our small fabric printing business.  We work closely with skilled artisans to make all our printed textiles using variation of printing and dyeing techniques. Our printing factory is such a beautiful inspirational place to work from. set amongst local rice fields under simple thatch and tin buildings with chickens moving around the yard. This is the setting in which we come together over many strong black Indonesian coffees and plan our colour swatches and prints. 

Combining block printing, various tie dye techniques and hand painted fabrics. Making no two meters of fabric the same. The imperfections and differences in each garment are what makes our garments special. 

We have established our customers favourite prints which remain consistent and carried through all seasons and collections creating a unique signature style exclusive to Nortje. Our designs for a season starting point comes from the outcome of the fabric designs we create through this process. Colour and print is everything.
